Next week in Year One...

Topic

In Topic we have started learning about journeys! We have been busy thinking about how we get to school and we have drawn a map of our journey! This week we will be thinking about where places are, what they are like and how we get to them.

Literacy

Today we looked at alliteration and designed our own front cover for a story. We came up with some great story titles...

  • The dolphin who came to dinner.
  • The bear who came to a BBQ.
  • The dinosaur who came to dinner.
  • The snake who came to snack.
  • The panda who came to a picnic.
  • The terradactyl who came to tea.
  • The bear who came to breakfast.

This week in Literacy we are going to continue with our story 'The Tiger who came to tea'. We will be busy story making and changing key features of the book to make our very own story! For more information on how we story make see the 'story making' tab at the top of the blog.

Numeracy

In Numeracy this week we are going to be finding pairs of numbers that make 4 and 5. We call these number bonds.

Number bonds are really important part of our maths learning as they help us with our adding, mental maths and overall understanding of number. It will really help you in numeracy if you know your number bonds 'inside out'.

Here is game so you can practise them at home. There are also some games on education city.

Another exciting week on its way!

Literacy

In Literacy we are going to be looking at the story 'The Tiger who came to tea'. This is a lovely story all about a little girl called Sophie who let a Tiger come into her house for tea! If you don't know this story you can watch it here...

This week we will be thinking carefully about the different events in the story and seeing if we can sequence them in order! We will be talking about the beginning, middle and end of the story. You could practise this with your reading books at home! We will also be thinking carefully about the settings in the story and seeing what words we can use to describe them! This week we will get to know this story very well so we can have a go at writing our own story next week!

Numeracy

In Numeracy we will be looking at estimating and counting objects. We will also be looking at ordering numbers as well as practising our number formation! See if you can remember the numbers that are one more or one less from our learning this week here, One more, One less.

Topic
We will be starting a new topic this week! Our new topic 'journeys' will begin with an afternoon for you to explore lots of different things related to journeys to get you thinking of questions you want to find the answers to. What journeys will you go on this weekend? What will you see? What did you pass? How could you draw your journey?

PE

Gym - We will continue to learn new balances and practise our rolls. We learnt 3 rolls last week; the log roll, the egg roll and the teddy bear roll! We even had someone from Year 2 come to show us how to do them and give us something to aspire to! We will think about how we can put all these things together to create a sequence.

Playground Games - We have been developing our throwing, catching and passing skills and this week we will focus on passing to another person. You can practise this at home too, remember to challenge yourself with a smaller ball if you want to!

Harvesting...!

We have had a very busy week learning all about harvesting! We have been describing fruits and vegetables, thinking what we could bring to a harvest festival, sounding out things we could see on a harvest table and sorting foods into how they are harvested! We have also been thinking about our favourite dinners and remembering the meaning of the harvest festival is to give thanks to God for providing us with these foods! Take a look at some of our super work below!

We also learnt how wheat was harvested! We had a go at making our own bread rolls! It was a very messy day in year one today! They looked and smelt delicious!

Our Lovely Class

As part of our all about me topic we painted self portraits! Can you spot yourself?

We have been thinking all about how different foods are harvested! On Thursday we are going to be making bread! Watch this video to learn how wheat is harvested to make bread!

Looking forward to another busy week in Year One...

I hope you have all had a good rest this weekend because we have another busy week planned this week! We are going to be learning all about harvesting and the harvest festival in preparation for our assembly on Friday! We will be exploring harvest across the curriculum, thinking about how we can describe harvest foods, writing lists, creating still life paintings, making bread, as well as learning how different foods are harvested!

In Numeracy we are looking at numbers that are one more or one less than a given number. Singing rhymes such as 10 green bottles is a great way of learning numbers that are one less, and there is also a game on education city for you to play! Remember to press the 'mycity' button on education city to find our games easily!

We will also be learning how to use number lines and how we can use them to help us with our adding!

Some fun games for you to play...

What a fantastic start to Year One

What a fantastic start to Year One!

We have had a very busy few days in Year One! We have been writing, painting, playing, reading, sharing, counting, building, pattern building, computing, drawing and lots, lots more! I hope everyone has had lots to tell mums and dads when they get home, but if anyone needs a reminder our blog will have lots of pictures of what we've been up to!

Literacy
In Literacy next week we will be writing postcards about our holidays. If anyone has any postcards they have been sent over the holidays you might like to bring them in to show us! We will also see how well we can read our high frequency words and tricky words and we will practise putting these words into sentences! These words can be found on our 'word wall' tab on our blog.

Numeracy
In our number work this week we will be looking at 'estimates' and seeing if we can make 'sensible' guesses of how many there are of something. You could practise this at home with your toys or with your dinner! For example...
How many carrots do you think you have on your plate? Now lets count them to see if you were right!
We will also be practising writing our number and seeing if we can put numbers in order. Here is a website to help you practise your number formation... Number formation

Topic
In our topic this week we are continuing our theme of 'All about me'. We will be painting self portraits, thinking about where we live and talking about our families. We will also be making our class charter this week!

Welcome Back!!!

Welcome to Seaside Base!

The summer holidays are nearly over and it is nearly time to come back to school. I hope all of you are as excited as I am about coming into year one!

I hope you have all been busy collecting your holiday treasures in your special bag - I have and I can't wait to tell you all about them. I am looking forward to seeing what your favourite book is too!

Here are some helpful tips to help you, and your mums and dads, on your first day back at school:

  • When you come in find your peg and hang your things up - your wellies can go above your peg if you have them.
  • Put your lunch box on the trolley outside the classroom.
  • Put your drink in the blue box in the classroom.
  • Put your book bag in our book bag box.
  • Change your shoes ready for active time - there is a special place for you to keep your school shoes or trainers by the door.
  • Find a job to do at a table.
  • Remember to give mum or dad a hug goodbye!

 See you all on Wednesday!
